I’m Starting to Live my Life

Kring! Kring!

I was suddenly waken up by the sound of my decade old alarm clock. Its already 5 o’clock in the morning. Half awake, I press the stop button to silence it and drag myself out of bed to get ready for my 9 to 5 life.

I immediately went to the kitchen, to prepare my breakfast. A simple fried rice and egg is already a feast for me as most of the time, I only eat pandesal coupled with instant coffee for my breakfast.

While eating, I browse my email and social media accounts. A quick look on my planner to check the things I need to accomplish for the day wraps up my breakfast. I then hurriedly take a bath and prepare for work.

I’m always in a hurry every morning to beat the perennial Metro Manila traffic. I commute everyday. I live in Taguig and I work at Libis. A good deal of my time is spent on the road.

Yes, this is my life.

I Sleep. I go to work. Go home. Sleep.

I was stuck in this vicious  cycle that is corporate life. It feels like I’m in the Truman Show. Everything around me is so effing familiar that it slowly drains away my strength and yes, my life. I feel there is something alive within me that gnawing its way out.

Yes! Everyday commute is so boring. Working in the office for 8 hours is boring, save by those days that I’m struggling to beat deadline. My life is boring and I need to do something about it.

And as if on cue, I saw this quote,

“In order to live free and happily you must sacrifice boredom. It is not always an easy sacrifice.”

-Richard Bach

But how can I sacrifice boredom?

By adding spice into my life. I need to do something not familiar. I need to get out of my comfort zone. I need to thread unfamiliar roads. I need to go to places where I have never been to.

So follow me, a bored 9-to-5 guy, as I become Desk Warrior Adventurer.
